More Pokémon Designs~

For Artemideus

Another commission~

This one is for Artemideus, who ordered a three-trait Suicune/Primal-Kyogre/Helioptile mix!  The Legendary-ness is off the scales….

This one was a bit of a challenge to design, firstly because: how do you properly blend these three disparate body styles?  And what makes Primal Kyogre different from regular Kyogre?  And then making sure I had enough Helioptile in—hoo boy….Especially when having the Variant trait could explain away the Helioptile socks and the combo of Helioptile ears/Suicune ribbon—but imagine it when it goes all Dilophosaurus….

The next big challenge with the body was the Kyogre bits—Suicune was an easy enough pick for the base (although now I’m thinking having Helioptile as the base would have been highly amusing).  Kyogre was a bit of a challenge to incorporate, although I started with the tail and the dorsal fins, since those seemed easy enough.  The markings were fun to incorporate with the Suicune patterns as well, but my main thought was trying to figure out how to get those big fins in—and then it hit me to turn them into pseudo-wings: stay folded against the side while on land, but get them in the water and watch out! :D

Incorporating the Ice Blend was easy enough—Suicune’s crest converts quite nicely to an ice-crystal design.  But Fairy types?...Designing Fairy types seems to be my weakness currently, although that might be from the fact that we don’t really have a lot of official Fairy Pokémon to go off of yet, as opposed to several years’ worth of other types.  However, giving the tail, ears, and mane extra flow seemed to help, as did adding some fairy-dust sparkle to the mane and the bioluminescent parts of Kyogre.  It leaves a trail of glitter in its wake….

The Variant trait has grown to be my favorite to add to a Pokémon—for simpler Pokémon, it can make the design a bit more complex, while for more complex Pokémon, it can render the design down to something simpler.  In this case, I used it to not worry about making the Kyogre markings 100% accurate, rendering them to something that can be drawn with less hassle.  To me, a strong Pokémon design is one that a person can draw over and over without getting tired or frustrated, so taking the opportunity to knock off design elements that frustrate me means I might be getting rid of that frustration for someone else. :)

Anything else?  Um, yes—sorry for taking so long with this, Artemideus. ^^;  But I hope you enjoy! :la:
